Southern Coast of Costa Rica
Costa Rica considered the “Switzerland of the Americas”, is a safe and peaceful country, and the premier destination for sportfishing and eco-travel in Central America. Mar Huron Sportfishing is based in Puerto Jimenez, on the Osa Peninsula, considered the ‘last frontier’ of the country and by far one of the most exotic, adventurous jungle destinations.
Puerto Jimenez is quickly becoming the more favored of the Gulfo Dulce fishing villages (Golfito, Drake’s Bay, Zancudo). Our location offers the shortest run to offshore grounds, and although remote, there are plenty of fun things to do and see in town. The fishing fleet consists of 40 boats.
The town has a population of 3000 and is remote, enjoyable and laid back. Once home to a prosperous gold mining trade, it now serves as a central location from which to enjoy the record-class sport fishing that is drawing anglers from all over the world.
The flight from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez is a scenic 55-minute ride along the Pacific coast.
Two blocks from the Fishack Villa and pier is the center of Puerto Jimenez. There are numerous restaurants, bars, stores, hotels, tour agencies, and a bank. The town comes alive in the evening with locals, ex-pats and visitors alike, enjoying the famous Mango Margaritas at Juanita’s Bar or icy cold Imperial beer at the Iguana Iguana Bar.
A remote and exotic area, the Osa is home to the prolific Corcovado National Park. Named by ‘National Geographic’ as one of the most biologically intense places in the world, a number of protected corridors run from the park and into Puerto Jimenez. Monkeys, Scarlet Macaws, Toucans, Crocodiles and more can be seen close by…often from the balconies at The Fishack!

Costa Rica Offshore Fishing
We are located on the shores of the Gulfo Dulce, surrounded by record class grounds for offshore fishing.
A major ocean current runs north along the western coast of South America to Costa Rica. It hits our area in Central America, bringing with it an abundance of game fish and sea life (over 700 species of saltwater fish).
Your day offshore begins with a short run to record class blue water – our location on the Osa Peninsula cuts run times in half compared to other Gulfo Dulce/Golfito locations.
This area is home to exceptional billfishing. It’s not uncommon to raise upwards of 20 sails on a good day offshore.
Fishing Techniques: Trips offshore are diverse and always exciting with the wide variety of fishing tactics we use. From trolling with conventional tackle or dead bait (mullet, ballyhoo and mackerel), to bait & switch, live bait and fly fishing. Many of our methods target all species at once, and will often result in double or triple hook-ups.

We offer an experience very different than the typical fishing lodge or outfitter – we own and operate a charter and private anglers villa. The villa is staffed and is run like a ‘mini-lodge’ offering 2 deluxe suites in The Fishack and a deluxe, private Casita.
Owned and operated by Capt Michael Packard, of Cape Cod, since it’s the establishment, Mar Huron Sportfishing has grown to include a 28 ft custom center console sportfishing boat, a deluxe pier-front villa, and on-site staff housing. Our newest addition is the deluxe “Casita”.
